Peter Abelmann was born in 1989 and grew up in Essen. Since October 2017 he has been studying philosophy and European art history at Heidelberg University. In 2018 he added sociology to his course portfolio.

In 2019 he was appointed teaching officer on the Student Council of Heidelberg University and elected deputy chair of the Constituted Student Body of Heidelberg University. He was the chair of this body from October 2020 to October 2023. Peter Abelmann was also active as the regularly elected student member of the Senate of Heidelberg University. In this role he sat on the Senate Committee for Teaching, the Rectorate Commission for Fair Conduct and the university’s Constitutional Commission.

Furthermore, he took part in many other university committees at the faculty and subject level, and was substantially involved in developing the theatre flat rate initiative of the Constituted Student Body, which other universities in the city of Heidelberg meanwhile participate in.

Peter Abelmann is chair of the association AIDSHilfe e.V. in Heidelberg, on the board of trustees of the Heidelberg Bürgerstiftung (Citizens’ Foundation) and holds many other voluntary positions for the welfare of society.

He has been a member of the Heidelberger University Council since October 2023.
