International Summer School
"Empirical Approaches to Discourse Studies"
San José de Costa Rica, July 26th to August 1st, 2019
The Center for Iberoamerica (IAZ) of Heidelberg University, in cooperation with the Postgraduate Program in Linguistics of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), invites doctoral and master students interested on empirical discourse research to the International Summer School "Empirical Approaches to Discourse Studies" (EmpDis 2019), that will be held at the UCR campus in San José de Costa Rica from July 26th to August 1st, 2019.
EmpDis 2019 is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and is aimed at Master’s and PhD students from Ibero-American universities interested in acquiring and expanding their knowledge on current approaches to empirical research on discourse. The main objective of the Summer School academic program is to provide participants with a solid training in research methodologies that will allow them to develop their own projects within the IAZ international research and cooperation network.
The academic program of EmpDis 2019 has a strong applied research orientation. It consists of theoretical-practical workshops, case study analyses, training sessions on the use of eyetracking equipment and corpus tools, as well as group work and presentations by all participants. All courses revolve around discursive phenomena presented empirically. In the activities that complement the academic program, the participants will obtain information and advice on how to apply and prepare for a PhD study program in Germany.
EmpDis 2019 builds on the scientific dialogue around empirical discourse studies initiated by the IAZ, and some of its partner universities in Ibero-America in the previous international workshops held in Heidelberg (DMEM 2017) and Viña del Mar/Valparaíso (DMEM 2018).
