Functions
International scholars at the University of Heidelberg who are teaching or working at a University institute or facility without an employment contract with the University can apply for a Visiting Scholar Card. The card certifies that the holder is a member of Heidelberg University. It can be used to obtain:
- a library card from the University library
- a Mensa (cafeteria) card (Campus card for university staff)
- a University sports center card

Application
Prerequisite for a Visiting Scholar Card is the successful online-registration at the Welcome Centre for International Scholars. To apply for a visiting scholar card you will also need:
- a digital passport photo (JPEG format)
- an invitation letter the host institute in Heidelberg
You can send us the necessary documents by email. As you will need to sign the I.D. card, we would ask you to pick it up in person at the Welcome Centre for International Scholars.
International scholars with an employment contract with the University can obtain a Service Card.
