Areas of Responsibility

Central web presence

The Web Office is responsible for the design, editorial support and maintenance of the central web pages of Heidelberg University. The team also assists other editors in creating and designing their own internet pages.

Decentralised web presence: Rollout of the new web system “Webkit”

The Web Office is organising and accompanying the rollout of Webkit, a web system designed for Heidelberg University. University institutes and facilities can create their own websites with the aid of this web system and receive support by the Web Office team from the planning to the go-live stage. Even after the website has gone online, support will be available and new editors can be trained to use the system.

Training programmes and support

A central component of the support offering for editors in the university web system is a structured training programme enabling participants to work on their website quickly and independently. In addition, the Web Office offers regular video consultation hours and a self-service portal to those seeking assistance.

Ongoing development and maintenance

The Web Office designs and plans the ongoing development of the Webkit system, both in terms of functionality and usability and of web design. The team works closely with an external web agency to implement and maintain the software.

Social media

Together with the Press and Media team, the Web Office maintains the university’s central social media channels. Guidelines are available to facilities and institutes on the use of their own social media pages.

Photo and video editor

The photo editor maintains a broad pool of photographs with motifs and scenes from various areas of the university. In addition to the portfolio available for free public use, other photographs are obtainable on request. The photo and video team designs and supports the university’s central YouTube channel along with its own video portal. In addition, it provides support for organising video recordings and livestreaming.

Distribution requests

The Web Office team reviews requests for email circulars to all members of the university and arranges for distribution.
