Medical technology places 12th worldwide in subject fields ranking

Clinical medicine at Heidelberg University was rated 48th in an international ranking by academic subject and garnered the top spot in Germany. In this Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2017, Ruperto Carola's best achievement by far was in the field of medical technology. Heidelberg ranked 12th internationally and 2nd in Germany behind Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (5th worldwide). The subject ranking list is part of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking. Public health (first in Germany) and the biosciences (second in Germany) are also ranked; both subjects fall in the 51 to 75 group.

In the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the subjects evaluated are categorised in one of five academic areas. The subject fields ranking is largely based on the number of publications, and most subjects also take into account the awards won by an institution. There are a total of five indicators, each of which is weighted differently depending on the discipline. In the overall Shanghai ranking, Heidelberg University placed first in Germany. Ruperto Carola placed 42nd internationally and 11th in Europe.
