In the course of a visit to Latin America, Baden-Württemberg's minister-president Erwin Teufel will be visiting Chile from 12 to 14 March. On Thursday 13 March, the Heidelberg Latin America Center is on his programme. The Center is generously supported by funds from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Art.
On the occasion of this visit, the Rector of the University of Heidelberg, Prof. Dr. Peter Hommelhoff, and the rectors of the Universidad Cátolica and the Universidad de Chile will be signing further cooperation agreements in connection with medicine and law. Subsequently, at the invitation of the Heidelberg Center and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Minister-President Teufel will be addressing the Faculty of Law of the Universidad de Chile on the subject of "The Future of Europe". The lecture will take place under the patronage of the German Embassy.
The minister-president is accompanied by a high-ranking delegation made up of representatives from the fields of politics, business and the universities. The aim of the visit is to further cement the close ties already existing between Baden-Württemberg and Chile. Among the points on the programme are talks with representatives of the Chilean government and an information and contact exchange for the representatives of numerous medium-sized business companies taking part in the visit.
The Heidelberg Latin America Center is a postgraduate and continuing education centre of the University of Heidelberg in Santiago de Chile. It was established in 2001. Its purpose is to disseminate German research findings and teaching programmes in Latin America and to provide young Latin American students with an opportunity of continuing their studies in Germany. The objective is to strengthen scholarly and scientific cooperation between Germany and Latin America.
