1,000-Page Opus by Prof. Nohlen "Outstanding Academic Book of the Year"
Prestigious distinction for "Elections in Africa" by Heidelberg political scientist Prof. Dr. Dieter Nohlen and co-authors Dr. Michael Krennerich and Dr. Bernhard Thibaut
A work by Heidelberg political scientist Prof. Dr. Dieter Nohlen and co-authors Dr. Michael Krennerich and Dr. Bernhard Thibaut has been selected as one of the Outstanding Academic Books of the Year in the United States. The 1,000-page opus "Elections in Africa" is published by Oxford University Press and triumphed in the Political Sciences category. The distinction is awarded by the influential US library journal CHOICE.
The book is the fruit of a research project funded by the German Research Council and conducted at the Institute of Political Sciences of the University of Heidelberg. It is a comprehensive and systematic round-up of the elections in all the countries on the African continent following independence, categorising them in terms of election laws, election organisation and election results. It is regarded as an indispensable work for comparative analytic research. "Elections in Africa" is the first of four volumes studying elections continent by continent. The research work on America and Asia is nearing completion.
