Newsletter IBF
University of Heidelberg, 1st quarter 2021
Dear
IBF-users,
hopefully
you had a good start into the new year.
With
the end of quarter I 2021 we would like to inform you about news and
changes in some operative procedures within the IBF:
Hygienic
Measures - Corona
Unfortunately,
there is no change since 4th quarter last year. Like
stated in the general hygienic rules of the university, it is
essential to follow the rules inside the building, especially also
lifts, personnel shuttles and experimental areas. This relates mainly
to the number of persons and distance. In the KEB some of the surgery
sites have been closed. Only 2 persons/site are allowed with distance
of 2 meters. Persons without personalized access card have to leave
their contact data, respective forms are available in our secretariat
or Dr. Vogt’s office (2nd floor). Thank you!
New
Extension form
The
form to extend an animal license has been changed. Please make sure
you use the new form, which is available on the homepage of the
animal welfare officers https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/tierschutz/index.html.
Release
of ordered animals
When
handing over animals to the experimenter we have to assure that
animals being transported to decentral labs are accommodated with
fluid. To prevent supply gaps due to turned bottles during
transportation in the past, released cages will now be equipped with
fluid gel cushions, which will be charged with 50Cent/cage. In case bottles
are needed, bottles and other cage equipment are obtainable at our
washing area.
Governmental
survey regarding carcass disposal
During
regular regulatory controls of the IBF, government officials asked
for storage, interim storage and transportation of animal carcasses
outside the IBF, which is beyond our ability to monitor. Starting
from 1st of may you will find lists in our carcass
disposal rooms (ground floor and basement), where the RGs have to
indicate number and species of disposed animal carcasses. The measure
will be performed initially for 3 month and passed to the
authorities. Within the organization of the IBF we will make sure
that documentation of eliminations is illustrated through our
database.
DFG
grants
When
applying for a DFG grant it is essential to consider that sponsorship
for housing of mice and rats has been changed, which is going to
affect the adaption of prices for animal maintenance. More information can be
found here: Information
für die Wissenschaft Nr. 106 | 21. Dezember 2020
Obligatory
CPT (continuing professional training)
In
association with the handling of experimental animals it is
obligatory to follow CPT once/year for one hour, which has to be
documented and is monitored by local authorities. Besides a large
offer of IBF “in-house” online seminars (Übersicht und Anmeldung),
alternative online courses are provided by other
animal facilities. Certificates are provided on request. More
information can be found here: GV-SOLAS
Dates
We
appreciate your understanding and support.
Stay
happy and healthy.
Best
wishes,
