Neurobiology Lectures Winter 2020/21

Neurobiology Lectures take place online on Wednesdays, 13:00, alternating with the IZN seminars. Dates and speakers are indicated below.

Prospective hosts: select an available slot, agree the date with your speaker and get in contact with the IZN Secretary Mr. Ferhat Dikmen who will confirm the date, include the booking on this web page, distribute an e-mail announcement and handle the reimbursement of travel expenses.

Information for speakers

The webinar 'moderator' will help the speakers prepare for their talks and pass the 'presenter' function to the relevant speaker.

A brief introduction to the functions will be given beforehand.

The presentation is 'shared' from your computer. Have the presentation open before sharing.

Normally a presentation fills the screen, blocking your view of the meeting window. To show a presentation in a window:

  • Microsoft 'PowerPoint': 'Slide Show' tab   >   'Set Up Slide Show'   >   'Browsed by an individual (window)'.
  • Apple 'Keynote': 'Play' menu   >   'Play slideshow in window'
  • LibreOffice 'Impress': 'Slide Show' menu    >    'Slide Show Settings'    >    'Presentation Mode: In a window'
  • play the presentation, then go to one of the window corners and change the shape of the window so it fits the presentation

Headsets provide the best sound quality for the listeners - Macs need one with a USB connection.

Questions are sometimes posted in the Chat window, so keep this panel open.

The Department of Neurobiology in INF366 offers a room for hosting webinars providing headset, extra monitor, high-speed network and  technical assistance. Use of this room will be offered in advance. The speakers should preferably bring their own laptops but laptops can be provided.

Presentations from home are not recommended as usually the upload speed is a fraction of that of the download speed. Educational and scientific institutions usually have high speed in both directions. Use a cable connection, not WiFi.
