The idea contest, in which we were looking for creative ideas, formed one part of the campaign. More information can be found here.


11 February - "International Day of Women and Girls in Science"

On this occasion we discussed with established and junior female scientists at Heidelberg University why "women in science" have and need their own day, whether they still need it, and what they need beyond that to thrive as scientists. The discussion focused on the opportunities, obstacles and wishes of women in science, and the participating scientists reported on their career paths, their experiences and observations.

Participants on the panel were Dr. Lisa Baumann (Biology), Professor Jadranka Gvozdanovic (Slavic studies and former equal opportunities officer of UHD), Professor Inken Prohl (Religious Studies), Professor Kathia Serrano-Velarde (Sociology), Professor Sabine Strahl (Biology), Dr. Sanam Vardag (Physics, Heidelberg Center for the Environment).

The panel has been moderated by Professor Christiane Schwieren, Equal Opportunities Officer of the University (Economics).

In addition, there was a greeting from the Minister for Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg, Ms. Theresia Bauer.

At the end of the one-hour panel, especially younger female scientists and those interested in an academic career had the opportunity to talk to more senior researchers in their field in breakout rooms.
