Project Description

The aim of the present study is to document different care concepts in inpatient care facilities for the elderly without mental disabilities as well as those with mental disabilities or chronic mental illness. Common and differing major problems in the supervision and care of the different target groups were investigated and analysed to develop and obtain applicable answers.

Investigation took place in six care facilities for residents without mental disabilities and in a further six care facilities with residents with mental disabilities or chronic mental illness. One hundred and forty six questionnaires, 12 focus groups and 66 video tapes representing everyday care situations form the basis for developing the staff's specific care concepts. Video tapes were discussed with each member of staff participating in the project in order to obtain additional care concepts pertaining to different target groups.

Additional questionnaires were distributed in the Rhein-Neckar region to obtain additional information. A total of 300 questionnaires were evaluated, 197 of which were about inpatient care facilities specialising in care for elderly people suffering from dementia.
