Thermo Fisher Scientific Q-Exactive Orbitrap

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Q-Exactive Orbitrap represents a quadrupole-Orbitrap hybrid. This instrument has been acquired by OCI in fall 2025 as a 2nd hand instrument to fill the gap in instrumentation that had occurred after the sudden breakdown of Bruker ApexQe FT-ICR-instrument. Thus, it provides high-resolution (R = 140 k at m/z 200) ESI and APCI mass spectra and offers backup capacity for the timsTOFflex, and more recently, for the Thermo Fisher Scientifc Orbitrap Exploris 240. Being a quadrupole-Orbitrap hybrid, this compact mass spectrometer is also capable of tandem MS for precursor ions up to m/z 2000. While the instrument is mostly designed to be operated in the m/z 100-2000 range, it can, in principle, be operated in the m/z 50-6000 range.
