New!! December 2022!! PhDs:

Synthesis of Polycyclic Aromatic Nanobelts within the TACY Project

Tacy Position

The research group of Prof. Dr. Michael Mastalerz at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Heidelberg University is seeking the following temporary full-time position from April 1st 2023 or later:

PhD Position (65%) in Organic Chemistry – Synthesis of Polycyclic Aromatic Nanobelts

TACY (Tackling the Cyclacene Challenge) is a joint project between the research groups of Michael Mastalerz (Heidelberg University), Holger Bettinger (University Tübingen) and Michael Gottfried (University of Marburg), financially supported by an ERC Synergy Grant starting in April 2023. The aim is to synthesize cyclacenes, a certain class of cyclic aromatic compounds that have been first proposed by Heilbronner in 1954, but still are elusive till date. By combining the expertise of synthesis, matrix isolation, on surface synthesis and theoretical calculations, the TACY team will use a new synergistic approach to solve this long-standing problem.

Objective is the synthesis of cyclacene precursors and polycyclic aromatic nanobelts.

Your profile:

- We are looking for experimentally skilled candidates, ideally experienced in multiple-step organic synthesis.

- Prior work on fused aromatic compounds is certainly advantageous.

- Communication within the project is in English, therefore excellent written and oral skills in this language are required.

We offer an international and attractive work environment in Heidelberg (research group Mastalerz). The salary is based on TV-L scale (E13). The position is limited to two years, with the possibility of extension.

If you are interested in this position, please send your application (as a single pdf-file), containing a letter of motivation, a CV, a list of publications, copies of academic certificates or diplomas and name three persons that may provide letter of recommendations

Please send the application to michael.mastalerz@oci-uni-heidelberg.de not later than December 31st 2022.

Heidelberg University stands for equal opportunities and diversity. Qualified female candidates are especially invited to apply. Persons with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are equally qualified. Information on job advertisements and the collection of personal data is available at www.uni-heidelberg.de/en/job-market.
