Sustainability in University OperationsPhotovoltaic Installations
There are two photovoltaic systems installed on the roofs of buildings on the Neuenheimer Feld Campus, with a total output of 113 kWp (kilowatt peak). 19 additional systems are in the planning stage, with five of these systems expected to be operational by mid-2024. In 2021 the university produced 87,511 kilowatt hours of electricity – roughly 0.1 per cent of its total power requirement – using photovoltaic systems. The university reviews the possibility of installing solar power systems on all new and renovated buildings, as mandated by state law, and implements a climate-friendly and sustainable use of roof space whenever possible.
