Sustainability
Heidelberg University is actively committed to the scientific recording and investigating of climate change and the developing of instruments, methods and technologies to take sustainable care of the Earth. Its approach embraces the whole university and it implements sustainability programs in all dimensions of university action: not only in research and teaching but also in the area of transfer and university operations.
With the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE), Heidelberg University brings together its environmental science activities across the disciplines – being the first university with a center of this kind in Baden-Württemberg. In addition, it has Baden-Württemberg’s only Institute of Environmental Physics. Professorships with an emphasis on environmental and climate-relevant research are also located at the university’s Institute of Geography and the Institute of Earth Sciences. Students from different disciplines can choose from a variety of courses dealing with environmental, climate and sustainability issues.
Besides embedding environmental sciences in research, teaching and transfer, Heidelberg University also implements many different programs for environmental protection and climate action at the operational level. They include programs aiming to reduce energy and resource consumption in research operations, or to promote environmentally friendly mobility.

Interviews on research for sustainable development

on at the university on the topic of sustainability.
The interviews took place in the context of the project GO FUTURE!, which was organised for school students and aims to provide knowledge-based support for schools, teachers and parents in reaching out to young people with the highly relevant topic of sustainable development.
