HEIDELBERG CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT New institutional framework for research on the environment and eco-social transformation
The interdisciplinary research incubator Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) was transferred to a central research institution on January 1, 2026. This underlines Heidelberg University's commitment to providing a significant contribution to research into complex environmental crises and the associated social transformation processes. HCE's core task is to bring together, initiate, and carry out interdisciplinary research initiatives on environmental research and eco-social transformation. The center was founded in 2011 and funded as a key measure within the Heidelberg University's Excellence Strategy.
