Academic DegreesState Examination

The State Examination is the final examination for programmes leading to professions for which the state is the main employer and it is in the interest of the state that professionals are properly qualified (as with doctors, pharmacists, and jurists). There are standardised state and national legal regulations for the training and examinations in programmes which are concluded by the State Examination.

Currently, the state examination in Heidelberg can be taken in the following subjects: Medicine in Heidelberg, medicine in Mannheim, pharmacy, dentistry and law. Since the winter semester 2015/2016, only enrolments in courses with a bachelor's/master's degree structure have been accepted for the final goal of becoming a teacher at grammar schools. As a rule, there are special application and admission requirements for admission to degree programmes with a state examination as a final goal.
