The application requirements for applicants who are citizens of European Union (EU) member states or of the European Economic Area (EEA) are essentially the same as those for German citizens. The same conditions also apply for international applicants with a German university entrance qualification/Abitur from Germany or from a German international school (so-called “Bildungsinländer”).
Places for study of subjects which are considered particularly challenging, or for which specific skills or aptitudes are considered necessary, are allocated by the University exclusively on the basis of an entrance examination procedure.
The university allocates places according to the criteria specified in the selection and admission regulations. If not regulated in the subject-specific selection and admission regulations the subject-specific study and examination regulations may also stipulate the access and admission requirements to be fulfilled. Further details can be found in the corresponding regulations.
If you are an EU/EEA citizen or international student with a German university entrance qualification, the application process for any subject which uses the entrance examination procedure requires that you submit both general, and subject-specific documentation via Heidelberg University’s online application portal by the given deadline.
Applications for any subject which requires participation in an entrance examination must be submitted to Heidelberg University by the relevant deadline via the online application portal. The application deadline constitutes a statutory cut-off period.
Winter Semester: 01.06. - 15.07.
The main selection procedure for the first academic semester in first degree programmes (Bachelor’s degree/state examination) is generally completed within four to five weeks following the deadline for application.
International students who have been admitted for study at Heidelberg University must apply for enrolment in the International Relations Office by the deadline specified in their letter of admission.
