EU/EEA CITIZENS OR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS WITH A GERMAN UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONTRANSFER STUDENTS: SUBJECTS WITH ADMISSION RESTRICTIONS IN HIGHER SEMESTERS

All students who are or were enrolled at a university in an EU member state and would like to continue to study the same subject at Heidelberg University in a higher academic semester can apply for admission as a transfer student.

Students can only be admitted to subjects with restricted admission in the higher semester if there is sufficient capacity in the desired subject.

Application for Change of University

In order to apply for a transfer, international applicants must submit an application to Heidelberg University by 15 January for the following summer semester or by 15 July for the following winter semester. The application deadlines constitute a statutory cut-off period. The Application for Change of University is to be completed online. The PDF file generated at the end of the online application process must be printed out, signed, and sent to Heidelberg University along with all other necessary documentation prior to the deadline for application. Please note that transferring to a new university in an academic subject that follows the “academic year model” is only possible in in the “uneven” semesters in the winter semester (3rd, 5th, ...) and in the “even” semesters in the summer semester (2nd, 4th, ...).
It is strongly recommended that applicants who would like to change their university contact the respective academic advisory service at Heidelberg University regarding the curriculum, required course assessments and offered courses prior to submitting an application.
Students changing universities within Germany may only be granted admission to the next higher academic semester.

Certificate of Transferable Grades

Students who intend to transfer from a university outside of Germany must include in their application a notice of recognition of credits earned and a recommendation for placement in a higher semester. Requests for the transfer of credits may be submitted to the examination office for the particular subject (central state examination office or Heidelberg University examination office).
