INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS FROM NON-EU/EEA COUNTRIESAPPLICATION DOCUMENTS for ENROLMENT in HIGHER ACADEMIC SEMESTERS

A number of different documents must be submitted as part of the application for a higher academic semester in a Bachelor’s or state examination degree programme (change of university or transfer student). 

Applicants who, in the context of a change of university or as transfer students, wish to apply for a degree programme with admission restrictions in higher academic semesters, must use the online application portal. Please print out and submit the entire application form (pdf printout of the online application) and ensure that it is dated and signed.

Applicants who, in the context of a change of university or as transfer students, wish to apply for a degree programme without admission restrictions in higher academic semesters, do not use the online application portal. Instead, they submit the application for admission for international applicants. The application form must be downloaded, completed and signed.

Required documents:

In both cases, the following documents must be included in the respective applications for admission and sent by post to the Admissions Office for International Students at the university or personally delivered during the office hours (Address: Universität Heidelberg, Dezernat Internationale Beziehungen, Zulassungsstelle für ausländische Studierende, Seminarstraße 2, D – 69117 Heidelberg). The documents must be received by the University by 15 January for the following summer semester and by 15 July for the following winter semester. Application dossiers or single documents reaching the university after the deadline cannot be considered in the admission process:

  • Officially certified copy of the applicant’s school leaving certificate, or qualification that permits university entrance in the applicant’s country of origin (e.g Abitur, Baccalauréat, Attest, Bachiller, High School Diploma, School Leaving Certificate etc.). This must include a list of the individual grades earned. If original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide an official translation into German or English.
  • Where applicable: A non-certified copy of the applicant’s diploma from a preparatory course in Germany, proving successful completion of an assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for study at institutions of higher education in Germany. This must include an overview of the individual grades achieved.
  • Where applicable: Officially certified copies of certificates or diplomas proving successful completion of university admission examinations taken outside of Germany. Where available, this must include a list of the individual grades achieved, as well as the letter of admission from the non-German university. If original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide an official translation into German or English.
  • Officially certified copies of all university transcripts of records for each semester or year of study. If the applicant has previously completed a degree, an officially certified copy of the university diploma. If original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide an official translation of these documents into German or English.
    If a university transcript of records is not available by the application deadline, it can be handed in until four weeks after the application deadline. 
  • Certificates of enrolment or alternative proof of all academic semesters completed or currently in progress at a university in Germany must be provided. Any proof should include the subject, academic semester, and the level of study (degree type).
  • Certificate issued by the previous university’s respective examination office stating that the applicant has not lost his/her entitlement to take examinations in the chosen, or neighbouring, subject. This applies to individual examinations, intermediate examinations as well as the final examination. If original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide an official translation into German or English.
  • When transferring to Heidelberg University from a foreign university or from another university in Germany: Certificate of transferable grades/accreditation certificate issued by the examination office of the responsible department at Heidelberg University or the responsible State Examination Office (Landesprüfungsamt) in the case of applications for medicine / pharmacy / dentistry. If the accreditation certificate is not available by the application deadline, it can be handed in until four weeks after the application deadline. 
  • Proof of German language proficiency (uncertified copy). In order to complete the German language test for admission to universities (DSH) at Heidelberg University, students must provide written proof of completion of at least 1,000 - 1,200 hours of German language instruction at a recognised institution.
  • Proof of sufficient financing for completion of the academic programme
  • Uncertified copy of the passport or identity card (page where the name is written in Latin script)
  • For transfer students applying for sports science: Copy of the sport aptitude test issued by the Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences at Heidelberg University or a notice of recognition of this test or a certificate of exemption.
  • Applicants with qualifications or diplomas from Vietnam or the People’s Republic of China: Original copy of APS certificate as issued by the academic examination body.

Please note

If you wish to simultaneously apply for the first academic semester and a higher academic semester in the same degree programme, you are required to submit all documents in duplicate, including the required documents in duplicate, to the university prior to expiry of the application deadline. In other words, you will have to submit two full sets of application documents.
The documents become the property of Heidelberg University and will not be returned. In the case of admission, the original documents must be presented during the personal enrolment procedure.
