International prospective studentsStudienkolleg and assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany

If a foreign school-leaving certificate is only considered partly comparable with the German university entrance requirements, participation in an assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany at a Studienkolleg may be requested based on the evaluation suggestions of the central office for foreign education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen) before starting a basic course of studies.

The Studienkolleg will prepare students for the assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany. The Studienkolleg at Heidelberg University offers two-semester subject-group-specific courses to prepare for the assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for a course of studies at institutions of higher education in Germany.

In the Federal state of Baden-Württemberg, where Heidelberg is located, applications for the preparatory courses for the assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany are not submitted to the Studienkolleg directly, but to the university in Baden-Württemberg where the subsequent studies are to be taken up.

Applicants admitted for the Heidelberg Studienkolleg must participate in an entrance examination (examination of German language skills). Its result will determine admission to the Studienkolleg. Exemption from the entrance examination for the Studienkolleg at Heidelberg University is not possible.

The following information on the application procedure is targeted at prospective students who apply for admission to the Studienkolleg who wish to pursue their studies at Heidelberg University after they pass their assessment tests.
