Course Content

The academic programme attaches major importance to conveying knowledge of psychology as an empirical science. Students learn about ways of thinking and research in empirical psychology and acquire the basic knowledge and skills of psychological research methods. They learn about different theoretical approaches and gain insights into the central topics of psychology. These topics are consolidated in a wide range of lectures, seminars and practice classes. In addition, students are also provided with an overview of the various career options associated with psychology. The targeted combination of compulsory elective subjects enables (but does not require) students to select own areas of specialisation in the second stage of university education.

Course Structure

As a minor, the six-semester course is divided into three parts.

  • Module I: Fundamentals – Familiarisation with the methods of thinking, researching and argumentation in psychology as an empirical science as well as overarching theoretical approaches.
  • Module II: Building on fundamentals – In-depth study of two of the following topical areas: general psychology I and II, social psychology, developmental psychology, bio psychology, differential psychology
  • Module III: Applications – In-depth study of two of the following application areas: clinical psychology, occupational and organisational psychology, health psychology, pedagogical psychology

The topics of stage 1 studies are specific to the minor subject while the topics of the remaining stages are taught in the context of the general Bachelor’s programme in psychology.
