Course Content

The objective of this degree programme is the acquisition of knowledge of current application-oriented principles of Medical Informatics along with the skills to adequately and effectively apply these principles in the various fields of the healthcare and medical industries, in the areas of development, consulting, and management. Graduates will also have the ability to collaborate in the selection and application of systems, methods, and tools for information processing in healthcare as well as to independently develop solutions to problems. This application-oriented university education provides students in the Medical Informatics programme all of the competencies required to pursue responsible positions in research, industry, hospitals, or at software companies.

Course Structure

The Medical Informatics bachelor’s degree programme consists of 21 modules, including the fields of computer science, medicine, medical informatics, software engineering, mathematics, and business administration. In the sixth semester, to further develop and deepen specific knowledge, one of three compulsory elective modules will be chosen.

Additionally, the Bachelor’s thesis is also to be completed within the sixth semester. In this supervised thesis, a topic from the field of Medical Informatics will be addressed independently, using up-to-date procedures and methods. To support this research, the institutions of the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, as well as the Heidelberg University network, e.g. the hospital and the institutes of the Medical Faculty and the German Cancer Research Center, are made available to the students.
