This course of studies enables students to further their specialised education in Jewish religion, history, and culture from antiquity to present-day streams and living worlds, and at the same time to prepare themselves for the teaching degree with didactic and pedagogical skills in independent modules and in a school placement. The Master of Education, teaching degree for Gymnasium secondary schools, requires a B.A. degree with 50% Jewish Studies with teaching degree option (or equivalent degrees).

Course Content

The M.Ed. Jewish religious education, teaching degree at Gymnasium secondary schools, comprises the subject of Jewish religious education with its specialised didactics, another area of theory and methodology with its specialised didactics, education studies, the Master’s thesis as well as the school placement. It prepares students for the teaching degree for Jewish religious education at Gymnasium secondary schools.

Students can choose their other subject freely. Other subjects and education studies are offered and performed within the framework of degree programme-related university cooperations in accordance with the corresponding examination rules and regulations of the respective university.

The subject of Jewish religious education, teaching degree at Gymnasium secondary schools, can also be studied as a supplementary subject with 120 or 90 credit points (see there).

Course Structure

The course of studies of Jewish religious education, teaching degree at Gymnasium secondary schools, comprises a specialised module, a blended module (theory and methodology and specialised didactics) and a specialised didactics module. Together with a school placement, the second subject for a teaching degree for Gymnasium secondary schools, and the Master’s thesis (in one of the two subjects), a total of 120 credit points will be achieved, broken down as follows:

  • 18 CP theory and methodology in each of the two subjects (of which 15 CP in the specialised module and 3 CP in the blended module)
  • 13 CP specialised didactics for both subjects (of which 5 CP in the blended module and 8 CP in the specialised didactics module)
  • 27 CP educational studies (outside the HfJS)
  • 16 CP school placement (accompanied by courses of the specialised didactics module)
  • 15 CP Master’s thesis
