Course Content

As a minor subject, a Bachelor’s degree in English encompasses fundamental language training and the scientific investigation of either English languages (linguistics), literatures (literary studies) or cultures (cultural studies). Students must choose their area of specialisation (linguistics, literary studies or cultural studies) upon enrolment.

Course Structure

In the first orientation semesters, students acquire subject-specific fundamental skills and knowledge in introductory courses in the selected area of specialisation (linguistics or literary studies) as well as in the phonetics courses. Three practical courses on ‘(Advanced) English in Use’ ensure that students have a solid linguistic base in English. Students who study English as a minor also gain insights into the Department’s research topics and methods in the two preparatory seminars and the lecture.
