Course Content

This degree programme covers the technical principles of computer science (computer architecture, implementation, networks), the efficient use of standard and specialised computers (application-specific computing), the design and construction of microelectronic, embedded, and autonomous hardware systems, as well as optics and image processing. Degree programme courses include the following:

Advanced principles of computer engineering

  • Parallel computer architecture
  • System theory
  • High-performance computers
  • Electronics

Cross-Disciplinary Skills

  • Software tools
  • Starting a business

Minor subject

  • Two elective courses

Specialisations in the fields of

  • Microelectronics / chip design
  • Application-specific high-performance computing
  • Robotics, Biomechanics & Biomedical Engineering

Based on their interests, students may chose to focus on one of these fields.

Course Structure

Five courses are to be completed within the first two semesters, usually consisting of two hours of lecture and two hours of tutorials. The courses cover the following 4 areas:

  1. Fundamentals (3 modules)
  2. Specialisation (5 modules)
  3. Cross-disciplinary skills (2 modules)
  4. Minor subject (2 modules)

In the third semester, students attend a seminar and embark on a research project. The project is intended to prepare the ground for the Master’s thesis. The Master’s thesis in the fourth semester is rounded off by a final colloquium.
