Course Content

During the Bachelor’s degree programme, students will be introduced to the basics of the major ancient Near East languages (Akkadian, Sumerian, and the Hittite language) and the highly-complex cuneiform script. They will also gain an overview of the history and cultural history of the ancient Near East. Students studying Assyriology as a major subject are required, within a relatively short period of time, to learn the basics of at least three ancient Near East languages (Akkadian, Sumerian and the Hittite language) and to learn the cuneiform script in all of its various forms.

Course Structure

This is a major degree programme (50%) in which only Assyriology will be studied. Another major subject of the student’s choice must be selected as the second major subject. In addition, students are required to earn a total of 20 credits in “cross-disciplinary skills” courses (ten credits in each subject).
