Excursions programmePalatinate/ Wine Festival

Sunday, 13 October

The first trip in the new semester will take us to the most beautiful of Heidelberg’s neighbouring regions, the “Pfalz”, or Palatinate. There we’ll discover the majestic medieval castle, “Reichsburg Trifels”. Sat atop a steep cliff, the castle once served as a treasury and a prison. Today, Castle Trifels offers a stunning view across the forests of the Palatinate, and the plains of the Rhine.

In the afternoon, we’ll head along the German Wine Route into the picturesque landscape of the Palatinate wine growing region. We’ll bring the day to a close at a German wine festival in Neustadt, where you’ll experience the warm ambience and fervour for which the Palatinate is known. Numerous decorated festival wagons and floats, bands and orchestras, and the newly crowned “German Weinkönigin” take part in Germany’s largest wine festival each year.
