Field of Focus IIIResearch Activities
Funding in Field of Focus 3 serves to identify and strengthen major thematic priorities.
In 2020, two Thematic Research Networks were established. The received funds were used to link and strengthen existing research activities on the priority topics and to build research and teaching structures. The topics of Digital Humanities and Transfer were promoted across all topics.
Thematic Priorities: Knowledge Research, Philantrophy Research, Environmental Humanities
Thematic Research Network "Validity of Knowledge"
The research network is concerned with the validity of knowledge and its genesis as well as the design of knowledge spaces and knowledge artefacts as media for the enforcement of knowledge claims. The aim is to understand the discourses and practices by which actors, groups of people and social networks give validity to knowledge.
Explorer Project "Artistic Alternatives to the Antigypsy Gaze"
Visual media, and especially the dominant medium of film, are instrumental in the formation and dissemination of antigypsy attitudes. One important question in this context is what artistic alternatives there are to transform filmic antigypsyism and the antigypsy gaze in general. This is the main question this Explorer Project intends to examine.
Thematic Research Network „Philanthropy, Giving and Collecting in the Longue Durée“
Through interdisciplinary cooperation in FoF 3 and FoF 4, the project aims to develop the foundations for a diachronic and cross-cultural sustainable theory of philanthropy by combining social science modelling with non-European, ancient history, regional and religious studies perspectives.
Thematic Research Network „Rethinking Environmental Change“
Under the impression of an omnipresent global environmental crisis as a major social and ecological change, the TRN is concerned with the transdisciplinary understanding of temporally and regionally different descriptions of this catastrophic situation as well as the identification and use of possible action resulting from rethinking.
Forum Digital Humanities
Building on the already established structures, the Research Council of the Field of Focus 3 is establishing the "Forum Digital Humanities". It serves as an association and representation of interests of the existing institutions and projects.
InFoDiTex – Interdisciplinary Forum of Digital Textual Sciences
The Interdisciplinary Forum of Digital Textual Science is a forum for both, young scholars and students who want to deepen their knowledge on theory and practice of digital textual science.
CiSAr - Citizen Science in Archaeology
The project aims at the evaluation of best practice examples of Citizen Science in archaeology
