Rector of Ruperto Carola welcomes the new students on 13 October on University Square

Starting your studies at Heidelberg University: Ruperto Carola will receive its newly enrolled students with a Welcome Day on 13 October 2025. On University Square in the Old City, University Rector Prof. Dr Frauke Melchior will greet all the students beginning their course in the winter semester 2025/2026 and those who started on their degree program in the past summer semester. Greetings will also be brought by Heidelberg’s First Mayor Jürgen Odszuck, the Managing Director of the Student Services Organization, Prof. Dr Perizat Dagliolu, and the chairs of the Constituted Student Body. The musical backdrop will come from the Collegium Musicum under the baton of University Music Director Michael Sekulla. The fresher welcome event starts at 10am. The speeches will be interpreted simultaneously into German Sign Language (DGS).

Following the greetings, between 11am and 1pm, the new students will have the opportunity at an information fair with 85 stands to find out about the university’s advisory and service organizations, those of the city, as well as various student-led initiatives. The Central Student Advisory Office, the university’s heiSKILLS Competence and Language Centre and the University Library will present themselves, as will the City of Heidelberg with the Theater, the Office for Environmental Protection or the Young Heidelberg Office. These and other facilities accompanying everyday student life will have stands in the New University building, which is situated directly on University Square.

In addition, campus tours through the Old City are taking place every half hour between 11am and 1pm. Here the newly enrolled students can get to know their future course locations and important contact points. Registration for the guided tours takes place online.
