Heidelberg third in Germany – Only three German universities represented in the “Top 100” worldwide

Ruperto Carola is among the top three of Germany’s best universities. In the QS World University Ranking 2020/2021, Heidelberg is again placed third behind Munich’s Technical University (50) and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (63). Heidelberg University ranks 64th internationally and has thus improved by two places compared with the previous year. In European-wide comparison, Heidelberg places 19th. Ruperto Carola and the two Munich universities are the only German universities represented in the “Top 100” in the QS Ranking.

The QS World University Ranking weights academic reputation (40 percent), faculty-student ratio, and citations per faculty (20 percent each). Other criteria are employer reputation (10 percent) and the share of international scholars and international students (five percent each). The current ranking includes 1,000 universities from 80 countries.
