15 February 2023

20 newly appointed professors presented themselves to the university public at the professorium on the invitation of the Rector

“A university always stands for new departures and confidence.” With a look far back into its history – to the founding in 1386 – Prof. Dr Bernhard Eitel, Rector of Heidelberg University, opened the first professorium in 2023 and explained the nature of Ruperto Carola’s self-understanding, particularly as a “comprehensive university”.

Professorium Februar 2023

There is a tradition for the recently appointed professors from the different university faculties to gather at this event, which takes place twice a year. They introduce themselves to the university public in short presentations giving information about their professional background and their research emphases. After a Covid-related break in 2020 and 2021, and an altered format last year, 20 newly appointed professors now accepted the Rector’s invitation. Prof. Eitel thanked them for their decision to work at Heidelberg University in future. “You are assuming a lot of responsibility and we are pinning our hopes on your enlivening and shaping our university,” said the Rector.

The professorium, which took place on 14 February in the Great Hall of the Old University, was followed by a reception in the Bel Etage, offering an opportunity for personal conversation and exchange.
