Kick-off Meeting of the DFG-funded Research Unit

“FOR 2509 - The concert of dolichol-based glycosylation: from molecules to disease models”Logo FOR 2509

Today, more than 100 genetically-caused disorders of glycosylation are known. These disorders span a broad clinical spectrum and impact almost every organ system.
To understand the complexity of glycosylation disorders, it is imperative to decipher the details of various glycosylation pathways, as well as the precise conditions for their interconnections.
To address these questions on the molecular, cellular and organismal level, we have not only brought together experts in N-glycosylation, C- and O-mannosylation pathways, but also in structural and lipid biochemistry, in proteomics, glycoproteomics, glycomics and lipidomics, as well as in developmental biology. The ten participating groups of the research unit are situated at four different locations: Heidelberg University, University of Frankfurt, Hannover Medical School, and Max Planck Institute Magdeburg.
Our shared vision is to gain a deeper understanding of dolichol-based glycosylation to facilitate the development of diagnostic tools and new therapeutic approaches.
During our kick-off meeting of this DFG-funded research unit we will discuss and further plan our collaboration and other organizational aspects.
