Indo-German-Japanese Workshop MCBR4

The concept of MCBR meetings (Indo-German meetings on “Modeling of Chemical and Biological (Re)Activity; MCBR4 will be the first Indo-German-Japanese meeting) was developed by Profs. H. Zippse (LMU) and G.N. Sastry (IICT), and the first meeting (MCBR1) was held in Hyderabad (2007), followed by MCBR2 in Wildbad Kreuth (2009) and MCBR3 in Chandigarh (2013). In January 2014, G.N. Sastry organized in Hyderabad as an extension to the scientific meetings the first Winter School related to MCBR. The next meeting, MCBR4, is held in February 2015 in Heidelberg, organized by Peter Comba. This meeting shall also include participants from Japan, and the following meetings shall take place every two years, alternating between India, Germany and Japan. These meetings will continue to combine applied theory and modeling of chemical systems related to biology and will continue to be a platform for fundamental and applied research, in particular also for young scientists.

MCBR4 will have 3 modules:

Module 1: School for 6 days, primarily based on electronic structure theory. This will include ca. 50% theory and 50% exercises on the computer. Part of the time at the computer will be used for mini-research projects. The lecturers will be from Heidelberg and India.

Module 2: MCBR4 scientific meeting. After 1 week of thorough training, the students will be fit to fully understand the lectures and discussions at the meeting. The three day scientific meeting will consist of invited lectures and a poster session preceded by flash presentations of the poster presenters.

Module 3: 5 After the School and Meeting, Indian students are selected to spend approx. 2 months with a German research group. The same number of German students are selected to spend approx. 2 months in an Indian group related to the MCBR network. The 10 exchange students will report at the next MCBR scientific meeting in a special session on scientific results of their exchange project. This part is of particular importance to strengthen the MCBR network and continue to build up a network for collaborations between German and Indian research groups. Possibly, the 5 exchange students (and their host PhD students) might meet for 2 days at Heidelberg before flying  back to India and discuss their results.
