In the area of Hangzhou – a city deeply immersed in Confucian culture – the statues at Feilai Feng triggered centuries of cultural conflict and adaptation, beginning in the Yuan and Ming dynasties, as Tibetan Buddhism and other diverse cultural influences encountered local traditions.
