Knowledge transfer Workshop: Bridging the Gap
This “gap” between one's own research and its transfer into everyday life, into the midst of society, is familiar to almost everyone who works in academia. Thus, all too often in the course of a scientific career, the question arises as to what possibilities one has to make the results of one's own scientific work accessible to a larger group of people. In times of rapid knowledge growth, publications in scientific journals or at congresses as the goal of scholarly activity are not the only - and above all not always the most sensible - ways of making new knowledge accessible.
New forms of knowledge transfer on the rise
The range of knowledge transfer activities has already grown considerably in recent years: Science Nights, public lecture series, podcasts, contributions by scientists in non-scientific media are just a few examples of how research institutions are already trying to give their scientific work more visibility.
But where do I find the time and money for such activities, which are often not yet covered by third-party funded projects? What other ways are there to inform others about one's own scientific work? And how can innovations and concrete improvements, e.g. for social problems, be generated from this?
These and other questions will be addressed in the “Bridging the gap” workshop format.
Objectives and structure of the workshop
In a small group, doctoral candidates and researchers from all disciplines can learn more about how they can generate a social benefit with their scientific work and where they can get support for the concrete implementation of such formats. During the 90-minutes meeting, interactive methods will be used to provide an overview of possible fields of action related to one's own research focus. This should contribute to making the diverse possibilities of knowledge transfer more tangible.
