Course Content
The Master of Education in Spanish equips students with specialist subject knowledge in the fields of Spanish literature, linguistics and cultural studies, as well as the didactic skills they require to teach this content to schoolchildren.
This combination of subject specific knowledge and specialised didactics enables students to develop their confidence and abilities to become an informed and effective teacher. Any subject knowledge covered as part of the Master of Education is approached in relation to how it might be taught in the classroom. This is an important didactic element of the degree programme.
This is complemented by practical language courses which aim to further develop students’ active and passive Spanish language skills, as gained in the preceding Bachelor’s degree programme with the teaching degree option.
Course Structure
Subject specific modules comprise 18 credits, while modules on specialised didactics comprise 13 credits (5 of which are allocated for the preparation and review of students’ practical semester in a school).
The blended module serves to combine subject specific knowledge and specialised didactics:
Depending on the range of courses available, the blended module consists in either two thematically-related courses, or one course with components from both areas. This module may be delivered in various learning and teaching formats, ranging from the traditional seminar to project work.
The selected version of the degree programme (A, B, C or D) is contingent on the number of credits gained in the blended module. This will be 10, 8 or 6 credits, depending on the version chosen. Accordingly, the distribution and number of credits gained in subject specific modules, and in modules which focus purely on specialised didactics, is reflected in the number of credits gained in the blended module. As a result, there are four different versions of the degree programme which might be begun in the Winter semester; and four further versions which might be begun in the Summer semester. The Master's thesis may be completed in the first or second subject or in Education Studies and is worth 15 credits. There is no additional oral or written final examination in the degree programme component in Spanish.
