Course Content
Protestant Theology, as a supplementary subject within the Master of Education for Gymnasium teachers, provides students with comprehensive theological-religious pedagogical skills. This takes place within the context of a holistic educational process, during which students will critically reflect upon and strengthen their own individuality and personal theology in preparation for a future role as a Religion teacher.
Course Structure
- Specialisation in two theological disciplines: Two major seminars of the student's choice; however, at least one exegetical major seminar must be taken during the Bachelor and Master studies.
- Interweaving of specialised theoretical knowledge and methods with concepts of research-based subject-specific didactics: Students will attend specialised survey lectures (Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, or Religious Studies), which correspond thematically with a seminar in religious education pedagogy.
- Subject-Specific Didactics Module: Major seminar in religious education pedagogy, including lesson plan development and school placement semester.
- Master’s colloquium: Oral examination in two different theological disciplines; topics will be agreed upon in advance.
Protestant theology can be studied as a subject comprising 90 credits (standard period of study 3 semesters) or as a subject comprising 120 credits (standard period of study 4 semesters).
