Course Content
The Bachelor’s degree programme equips students with fundamental skills and basic specialist knowledge within the field of historical methodology. The programme focusses in particular on the Medieval period. Historians are developing knowledge and understanding of this era by drawing on sources in Medieval Latin. Graduates of the degree programme are able to research and interpret new, unexplored historical sources. Students are familiar with the historical dimensions of language and imagery, traditions, rites and rituals, as well as forms of expression, mediums, formats and enactments. They are able to reflect on the opportunities opened and risks posed by digital media.
The Bachelor’s degree programme qualifies students to enter employment, and enables them to independently assess historical sources and respond to questions and issues within the field. Students are expected to acquire skills which enable them to work independently in various cultural fields, and in the information and communication sectors. In addition, they will be qualified to embark on a Master’s degree programme in any other closely related subject.
Course Structure
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Historical Methodology consists in four modules. In the first four semesters, students complete two basic modules. They complete a specialised module in the fourth or fifth semester, along with an excursion module. Students must complete at least one practice class in the field of diplomatics or palaeography. Students must also ensure that they select at least two different subdisciplines of historical methodology when selecting practice classes or lectures.
