Technology Transfer

Heidelberg University’s goal is to make scientific knowledge and technologies available for the benefit of society. By supporting university start-ups and spin-offs, IP transfer, and collaborations with partners from industry, it promotes the transfer of results from basic research into practical applications.

In the area of technology transfer, the university offers its members a wide range of advice and support. This includes, among other things, the protection of intellectual property arising from research results through patent applications and licensing. The commercialization and implementation of ideas in the form of start-ups are professionally supported by staff from the university’s transfer agency, hei_INNOVATION. The realization of transfer projects is further strengthened through a large network of partners at the research city of Heidelberg and within the region.

Intellectual property and IP management

Patents & Intellectual Property

Patents protect intellectual property. Just as every book author has a copyright, an inventor of a technical-scientific innovation can apply for patent protection. The author is entitled to a fee, the inventor to the inventor's remuneration.

Cooperations and Partners

Industry Cooperations

The university fosters collaboration between research, start-ups, and industry. Within this framework, various Industry-on-Campus projects are supported. In addition, the university assists in building new partnerships with companies and in carrying out joint activities at the interface of science and industry.
