Young Researchers Fund
Why do we need the creation of a Young Researchers Fund?
It is a matter of great importance to us to support young researchers, doctoral candidates as well as postdocs, in crucial phases of their further qualification. We believe that the young researchers of today are the top scientists of tomorrow. Providing these young researchers with an excellent working environment in order to retain them at the University of Heidelberg on a long term basis gives our university a key advantage in the face of global competition.
What does the support for talented young researchers look like?
Completion scholarships for doctoral candidates as well as travel allowances for doctoral candidates and postdocs are financed from the Young Researchers Fund:
- Completion scholarships are awarded to doctoral candidates who have to overcome shortfalls in funding before submitting their doctoral dissertation which enables them to concentrate completely on their dissertation in a crucial phase on their way towards a doctorate. A scholarship up to a maximum of 1,000€ per month will be awarded for at most half a year.
- Travel allowances are awarded to doctoral candidates and postdocs, so that they are able to attend conferences and workshops or to undertake research periods at home and abroad. The maximum grant is 1,500€. This gives young researchers the opportunity to widen their horizons, to gain new impressions and to make new contacts. These are the kind of experiences that might have a lasting impact on their future careers, especially at the beginning of research activities.
How can I contribute?
You can support talented young researchers directly and promptly with your donation. Besides, there is the possibility of an endowment contribution to the capital stock of the fund in order to provide sustainable resources thanks to annual earnings. You can transfer your contribution to the account listed below or donate directly online.
