The rich and interesting web site devoted to Apuleius' Apologia
(http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/jod/apuleius) has now been enhanced further by
an extensive treatment of Magic in the Daily Life of Roman North Africa by
Mr. Gil Renberg, doctoral student at Duke University. This site, product
of a seminar I was privileged to lead in 1996, includes Latin text,
English translations, and a variety of stimulating essays and supporting
material gathered by students at Penn and elsewhere: worth a detour. My
thanks to Mr. Renberg for the very substantial effort in his piece: it
includes, among other things, many images of magic amulets and other
artifacts from the period.
