Funding for young researchers

DFG Individual Grants Programme
Postdocs are eligible for individual funding from the DFG in the form of research grants, which include financing of temporary positions for principal investigators.

Research Fellowships
Research fellowships enable researchers at an early stage in their career to conduct a clearly defined research project for up to two years at a location of their choice abroad, to acquaint themselves with new scientific methods or complete a major research project.

Project Management Position
Young researchers can request funding of a project management position (financing of their own position) for their specific project.

Emmy Noether Programme
The Emmy Noether Programme supports young researchers gain independence early in their careers. Young postdocs gain qualifications required for a university teaching career usually over a five-year funding period in which they lead their own independent junior research group. Emmy Noether junior teams in special research areas and in research groups give young scientists the opportunity to conduct independent research for a specified time within the area or group.

NIH/DFG Research Career Transition Awards Program
This jointly funded programme by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA and the DFG enables young scientists to pursue research over a consecutive period of five to six years, starting at one of the NIH institutes in the USA and continuing at a German research institution.

Research Training Group
As postdocs in a Research Training Group, young researchers can gain additional scientific qualifications, assist in developing the research and, if applicable, the academic programme, and explore new research topics.

Posts in DFG Projects
Posts in DFG projects give researchers an outstanding environment in which to distinguish themselves once they complete their doctorate.

Heisenberg Programme
This programme aims to advance accomplished young scientists with outstanding research backgrounds who have qualified for but not yet received a professorship and thus retain them in science and academia.
