Schools

School attendance is mandatory for all children between the ages of 6 and 15 living in Germany. There is a large variety of schools here – public schools, private schools, church-run schools, boys or girls schools, comprehensive schools, elementary and secondary schools. Depending on the duration of the stay in Germany, it is mandatory to either register children at a local school or have them declared exempt from mandatory school attendance.

After-school care is also available for school children at many Heidelberg schools and usually includes a warm midday meal, homework supervision and various fun activities. As these services are provided by outside organizations, fees are charged.

We are happy to help you to locate suitable schools for your children. We recommend that you contact us as soon as possible if you have school-age children.
