Professionalising Translation

Series of lectures at the School of Translation and Interpreting

“Professionalising Translation between Theory and Practice” is the title of a weekly series of lectures taking place at Heidelberg University in the winter term 2009/2010. The School of Translation and Interpreting has invited a number of guest speakers, including experts from translation companies and heads of foreign language services attached to business enterprises and public institutions. They will report on their activities and the kind of work translation and interpreting graduates can expect in their professional lives. The lectures begin on Wednesday, 28 October 2009.

The first lecture this Wednesday is devoted to “Professional Conference Interpreting”. Among the topics addressed in the coming lectures are the duties of interpreters and translators working for the Franco-German TV channel ARTE, literary translation, the translation of legal texts ways of founding a translation company. The lectures take place at 12.15 p.m. on Wednesdays at the School of Translation and Interpreting, Plöck 57a, Heidelberg.
