Heidelberg University ranks second among the best universities in Germany
Heidelberg University has maintained its outstanding position in this year's Times Higher Education World University Ranking. In the 2016-2017 ranking just published, Heidelberg again ranks second of the three best universities in Germany. After Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (30th), Heidelberg University (43rd) followed by the Technical University of Munich (46th) are the three universities in Germany among the world's top 50. Last year, Ruperto Carola surged ahead from 70th to 37th internationally, which moved it from 3rd into the 2nd place spot in Germany. Among the European universities, Heidelberg places 13th in the THE Ranking.
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, published on 21 September 2016, is based on various indicators in five areas of performance, with teaching, research and citations assigned a 30% weighting each. Other areas analysed include internationalisation (worth 7.5%) and industry income (worth 2.5%).
