Universität Heidelberg Earns Top Spots in CHE University Ranking for Eleven Subjects

Top rankings especially for Heidelberg and Mannheim medicine, dentistry and biology

For human medicine, the medical faculties of Heidelberg and Mannheim earned four spots in the top group of the current CHE University Ranking. Both ranked highly in research reputation, overall study situation, faculty advising and the dovetailing of preclinical and clinical work.

Heidelberg also fared extremely well in dentistry and biology in three of the ranking’s indicators. Dentistry is in the top group for faculty-student ratio, scientific and academic publications and research reputation. Biology scored highly in laboratory space and equipment, citations, and research funding.

Other subjects ranked in the top group include chemistry and physics (each for citations and research funds), geography and mathematics (scientific publications and research funds), and sports teaching (overall study situation and research funds). Furthermore, pharmacy and the sports sciences scored well in research funding.

The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) includes in its ranking a total of 32 subjects at approx. 300 universities and institutions of higher education in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Besides facts on study programmes, teaching, facilities/equipment, and research, the university ranking takes into account the opinions of more than 250,000 students on the conditions of study at their university. Each year a portion of the spectrum of subjects is re-evaluated. The results are published in the DIE ZEIT Study Guide.
