The Heidelberg team achieved a resounding success at the Willem C. Vis Arbitration Moot in Vienna. At this year's international competition for law students 136 universities were involved. The contest simulates a transaction relating to the international sale of goods before an international arbitration tribunal. Prizes were awarded for written presentations and oral arguments.
This year the Heidelberg team's memorandum for claimant was accorded the Pieter Sanders Award 2004 as the best of the 136 memorandums submitted. In the oral argument category ("Martin Domke Ranking") Dominic Müller came second for his outstanding oral presentation. Joan Hofmann achieved an honourable mention in the same category. The outstanding oral performance by all four team members (Joan Hofmann, Annick Moiteaux, Dominic Müller, Giedre Plentaite) assured Heidelberg a place in the final round featuring the best 32 of the 136 universities participating. The Heidelberg team was supervised by Matthias Kuscher and Peter Tochtermann, both staff members of the Heidelberg Centre for International Dispute Resolution at the Institute of Foreign and International Private and Business Law headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Pfeiffer.
