Effective as of 1 March 2004, Dr. Ulrike Albrecht has been appointed a member of the University Council of the University of Heidelberg for three years by the Minister of Higher Education, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg. The University had proposed Dr. Albrecht to the Minister for membership in its central strategic control and supervision body. Dr. Albrecht is in charge of the Department for Questions of Principle of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, where she is responsible for strategic planning and international organisation.
Rector Prof. Dr. Peter Hommelhoff expressed his gratification at the appointment by the Minister and thanked the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for its willingness to contribute central competencies in the field of strategy and international organisation to the University Council.
Dr. Albrecht is by no means an unknown quantity for the University. From 1997 to 2001 she headed the Department of Research and Research Development of the University's Central Administration. Dr. Albrecht is a historian and studied at the University of Göttingen. She obtained her doctorate there in 1992 in economic and social history. Subsequently she held various responsible positions in the field of science and science management.
"The fields in which Dr. Albrecht is a qualified expert are extremely valuable for the University of Heidelberg," said Hommelhoff on the occasion of the appointment. "Questions of strategic positioning and the ongoing handling of its internationalisation are major concerns of the University. The University greatly looks forward to having Dr. Albrecht in the University Council."
