The "Heidelberg Forum of Molecular Catalysis 2003" (HFMC 2003) will be taking place for the second time at the University of Heidelberg on 27 June 2003. This one-day scientific symposium featuring high-ranking specialists in the field is an event jointly organised by the University, the long-term collaborative research project on "Molecular Catalysts: Structure and Functional Design" (SFB 623) established last year by the German Research Council at the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences in Heidelberg, and by the BASF AG, acting once again as sponsor.
The plenary lectures will be given by three leading international researchers from the United States: Prof. Dr. Maurice S. Brookhart from the University of North Carolina, Prof. Dr. John F. Hartwig from Yale University and Prof. Dr. Eric N. Jacobsen from Harvard University. A high-spot of the event will be the presentation of the BASF Catalysis Award 2003, endowed with 10,000 euros and acknowledging outstanding research work by a scientist of the younger generation. This year the prize goes to Dr. Stefan Mecking of the Material Research Centre and Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Freiburg. In the fourth plenary lecture of the Forum he will be outlining his work.
The HFMC 2003 Catalysis Forum begins at 9 a.m. on 27 June 2003 at the large lecture-hall of the chemistry lecture building, Im Neuenheimer Feld No. 252, D-69120 Heidelberg and forms part of the activities in the framework of Chemistry Year 2003. All interested are very welcome to attend. For further information contact Prof. Dr. Peter Hofmann, University of Heidelberg, phone: +49-(0)6221-548415.
